CAPACITY is a community-engaged research project about local murals, public art, and community identity.

This project is sponsored by Lackawanna County Arts and Culture Department.

Photovoice

CAPACITY uses a method called Photovoice, in which members of the community investigate the relationships between murals and the community’s collective sense of identity by taking photographs and discussing them. The project’s culmination is a photography exhibition in which policymakers, mural artists, public art initiatives, and our diverse community can join in discussion about how local public artworks can be used to inclusively represent and unify the community.

Come to the Exhibition – See the Results!

This is a must-attend event for artists and change makers to network and shape the future of NEPA’s mural scene through community-driven insights!”

You are invited to attend the opening of the CAPACITY exhibition on October 19, 2024, at 6 PM at AFA Gallery in Scranton.

Research Questions:

(1) What content or themes found in local murals truly resonate with NEPA residents?

(2) What additional themes could reflect their community identity in future murals?
